City of Saline prepares to review proposals for new public square

Saline Mayor Brian Marl and City Council have created a task force to evaluate competing proposals for a downtown gathering space.

Two proposals were submitted: one by Saline’s former community development director, Ben Harrington, and the other by Properties of the practice. They concern different plots of the city center.

Marl says both are seeking city funds, so he wants the group to review each plan.

“We will put together a task force of three council members and two staff members to engage all relevant stakeholders, business owners and property owners in our downtown and come back with a recommendation.”

Marl says he wants the group’s official report no later than the Jan. 13 regular council meeting. He says a quick turnaround is needed because Praxis’ Tyler Kinely is seeking money from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation for his proposal, and his candidacy is expected at the end of January.
