Deputy CM urges IMD meteorologists to improve level of forecast accuracy

Patna: Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary urged meteorologists in the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) to improve the level of accuracy of their forecasts. He said the state and central governments were ready to provide them with all possible assistance required to improve the services of the IMD.
“Development of associated infrastructure is crucial for making accurate forecasts, which have improved in recent times. We want this to improve further and are ready to help all of you in this effort,” Chaudhary said at a workshop stakeholders on the subject. weather and climate servicesorganized here to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the founding of IMD.
Choudhary added that IMD has come a long way and it should be commended for its almost accurate predictions which have been very useful in the fields of agriculture and disaster management. “Weather forecasts play an important role in the lives of farmers, who can plan and prepare their agricultural activities based on the forecasts made by meteorologists,” he said, adding that meteorological and disaster departments were complementary and that the first could help. the latter in disaster management and saving lives and valuable property.
The Vice CM also said that weather reports play an important role in various areas, including take-off and landing of aircraft, which depend on favorable weather conditions and accurate forecasts.
On the state government’s plan to increase green cover, Choudhary said it planned to plant around one lakh saplings along the JP Ganga trail to develop and popularize the area as eco-tourism . The number of saplings will currently be 1.5 times the total number of trees in Patna zoo, he added.
Mritunjaya Mahapatra, Director General, IMD and Ashish Kumar, Head, Meteorological Center (Patna) also spoke on the occasion and spoke about IMD’s weather monitoring and forecasting services for the state.
