Misty start Wednesday followed by clouds, sun and some rain

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – Another very hot day is expected Wednesday before temperatures begin to cool down the rest of the week. You will really feel the colder weather on Friday and the weekend.

Very dense fog around the Chattahoochee Valley through mid Wednesday morning. Slow down and give yourself more time. Clouds will mix with some sunshine throughout the day. While highs are expected to reach the low to mid 70s again, there is a risk of spotty showers in the afternoon and early evening and perhaps even a thunderstorm as the first of the two cold fronts passes. Rain coverage appears to be around 30%, with the best rain chances looking to favor areas south and east of Auburn, Phenix City and Columbus.

Partly cloudy to mostly cloudy this evening. Some fog is possible around Thursday morning, but hopefully it won’t be too widespread as some drier air attempts to infiltrate the area. Still mild with lows in the upper 40s near LaGrange, low 50s in Columbus and mid 50s in Fort Gaines and Eufaula.

Becoming mostly sunny on Thursday. A little cooler during the day with highs in the 60s.

Friday will be the most complete textbook possible for mid-December. Sunny, windy and cool. Morning lows will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s and highs will reach around 60 degrees. A stronger cold front moves in Friday evening, giving us a colder feel for the weekend.

Lots of sun all weekend. Lows will be near freezing (30 degrees and some upper 20s) with highs in the 50s. We could have 20+ Monday morning.

After a fairly cool Monday, a slow warming trend is expected as we move into Christmas week. Eventually, we might see a few showers as we approach Christmas Day, but there is currently a lot of uncertainty about that timetable. Currently, the maximum forecast is near average for Christmas. That is, lows in the 40s and highs in the 60s. Long range models suggest it is warmer around Christmas and just after Christmas.

This year, Christmas should be close to average. Highs are near 60 and lows are near 40. Showers are...
