Fury Vs. Usyk trilogy: under contract if Tyson wins the rematch

Promoter Frank Warren says the trilogy match between Tyson Fury and unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk is under contract, provided “The Gypsy King” is victorious on Saturday night in the rematch in Saudi Arabia.

Risking the mega-fight

If Fury (34-1-1, 24 KO) wins on Saturday, fans would rather see him move on and face Anthony Joshua or Daniel Dubois rather than going straight into a trilogy fight with Usyk. The third fight between them can always happen later, after Tyson fights 35-year-old AJ, who at this point looks very fragile after getting blown out in five rounds by Dubois.

Given Joshua’s vulnerable state, it would be a mistake for Fury to win the trilogy match with Usyk. If Joshua is beaten again while Tyson has to fight Oleksandr again, it will take a lot of interest from the boxing public to see a Fury-Joshua match.

Great at any time?

Warren says if Fury, 36, beats Usyk, it will make him one of the greatest of all time. This is a bit of a stretch as the Gypsy King still wouldn’t have wins over high quality fighters who were still young when he beat them.

Fury’s career best wins

  • Wladimir Klitschko
  • Deontay Wilder
  • Dillian Whyte
  • Derek Chisora

You’d be doing a lot of harm in thinking that Fury’s best wins make him one of boxing’s all-time greats. Even if he beat Usyk, 37, on Saturday night, his resume would still be too thin to place him among the boxing greats, and definitely at No. 1. It would be a joke and no one would take it seriously.

To this point, Fury’s career No. 1 win is a close 12-round win over 39-year-old Wladimir Klitschko. If you followed Wlad’s fighter, you would recognize that it was a faded fighter at the time Fury, then 27, was fighting him.

Try to imagine where Fury will be physically when he’s 39 and fighting one of the top guys. You won’t be able to argue that he was at his best, and you will have to discredit any victory by a young fighter over the old shell of Fury. This is why it is impossible to rank Fury among the greatest of all time in boxing, because his resume is too weak.

Trilogy contract

“It does because it’s under contract, and no matter what happens, it would be if Tyson won, provided no one retires,” promoter Frank Warren told Boxing News about a trilogy match between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk being contracted.

“A lot of journalists after the last fight… the majority of them said that Usyk is now the best heavyweight of his generation and he deserves to be up there with the Alis and the Lewises and the Marcianos and all these guys coming back time.

If Tyson beats him (Usyk), then it becomes Tyson, and I think Tyson is there anyway. The fact that he’s a two-time world champion (title wins over Wladimir Klitschko and Deontay Wilder), the fact that he won his titles on the road in the other guy’s country or in his adopted country ( Germany for his fight against Wladimir, 39 years old). ). He’s (Fury) there. He’s a great, great fighter. If he survived this one, he’s an even better fighter.
