What to expect from the city on New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — We’re just days away from fireworks, parties and festivities to ring in the new year.

December 31st is a busy day in the Valley, so the Las Vegas Metro Police Department wants to remind you of some tips for staying safe.

Several agencies and local officials met at 1 p.m. Wednesday to discuss preparations for the upcoming New Year’s Eve celebration in Las Vegas.

LVMPD said it expects 400,000 visitors between the Strip and downtown at Fremont Street.

Road closures on New Year’s Eve

If you plan to travel to the Strip or Fremont Street, here are some road closures you should be aware of:

  • From 5:30 p.m., Flamingo and Tropicana will be closed in both directions.
  • By 8 p.m., Las Vegas Boulevard will be completely closed.

Security measures on New Year’s Eve

LVMPD said it will do everything possible to keep everyone safe. The National Guard, along with other valley agencies, will be deployed Tuesday.

During the briefing, LVMPD said they also plan to keep your neighborhoods safe.

They said if you see anything suspicious, call the police.

What not to do on New Year’s Eve

Here’s a list of things LVMPD said officers are cracking down on while you’re celebrating on the Strip or on Fremont Street:

  • Glass bottles
  • Large bags
  • Luggage
  • Diaper bags
  • Computer bags
  • Strollers
  • Carts
