Caoimhin Kelleher’s ‘superb save’ helps earn top mark – Liverpool FC

Liverpool won 2-1 away Southampton Wednesday evening, with Caoimhin Kelleher a featured artist in a Carabao Cup quarter-final victory at St Mary’s.

A much-changed Reds team still proved too strong for the Saints, as they reached the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Darwin Nuñez sent Liverpool back in front after being held up, before Harvey Elliott doubled the advantage before halftime.

Cameron Archer scored a brilliant strike before the hour mark to make it 2-1, but Kelleher made an important save to keep his side in the lead and they held on for victory.

Here we compare our player ratings with those of Liverpool Echo, AIM, PhotoMob and TIA readers.

Keller (7.4) shares the highest rating with Cody Gakpo (7.4).

The Irishman bounced back impressively from his mistake Newcastleproducing an impressive performance between the sticks.

Theo Squires of Echo praised the “superb save” Kelleher made on Archer to keep Liverpool ahead, while It’s Anfield‘s Mark Delgado called it “brilliant”.

As for Gakpo, he did a lot of things against the Saints, leading GOAL’s Mark Doyle to praise his “well-timed pass” for Elliott’s goal.

It was Elliott (7.3) who was just behind his two teammates in the standings, as he scored in his first start since May.

The 21-year-old “grew in stature”, according to Squires, while FotMob noted that he had three shots and made the same number of digs.

Four players shared the lowest score of 6.2: Jarell Quansah, Tyler Morton, Alexis MacAllister And Trey Nyoni.

It seems harsh on the midfielders, but Quansah struggled late on, finding himself lucky not to be sent off for what looked like a foul in stoppage time.
