Winter session of Parliament: Rajya Sabha MP Phangnon Konyak on Thursday accused Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of “misbehaving” with her and his “physical proximity” making her uncomfortable as she was demonstrating in the Parliament complex.

She wrote a letter to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, alleging that her dignity and self-esteem had been deeply hurt by the behavior of the Lok Sabha LoP.

What did she allege?

The Nagaland MP said she was participating in a protest near the Makar Dwar staircase of the Parliament building when security personnel created a passage towards the entrance.

“Suddenly, Leader of Opposition Shri Rahul Gandhi Ji along with other party members came before me despite a passage created for them,” she wrote.

She alleged that Rahul Gandhi “misbehaved” with her in a loud voice. “…and his physical proximity to me was so close that as a female member I felt extremely uncomfortable. I withdrew with a heavy heart and denouncing my democratic rights, but I felt that no MP should behave in this way,” she wrote.

She further mentioned that she belonged to the ST community in her state and with Rahul’s alleged misbehavior, her “dignity and self-esteem had been deeply hurt”.

“Therefore, Mr. President, I ask for your protection,” she wrote.
