New apartment complex opens in downtown Grand Junction

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – An apartment complex that has been under construction for two years is expected to welcome its first tenants in mid-January.

This, however, raises the question of whether there should be more housing development in downtown Grand Junction. The Junction Apartments in downtown Grand Junction will begin filling up with tenants next month. The reason for construction in downtown Grand Junction is to help meet the need for more housing in that area.

Jennifer Wunderlich, community manager for Junction Apartments, said, “Downtown, I feel like there are a lot of smaller units, like studios, available. The type of units we offer, studios, one and two bedrooms, are not as plentiful here. So I think it’s a great opportunity for people who want to be closer to downtown to move to apartments.

The complex also provides a sense of community for tenants.

Wunderlich said, “We want to be able to get these people, our tenants, to help them feel a sense of belonging in this downtown.” Patronize local businesses and be able to bring business to these entities that are downtown. So we want them to feel like this is their neighborhood.

Some support the idea of more housing in Grand Junction.

John Vaughn, in favor of downtown housing development, said, “If you get more housing, that given the rents will go down because there’s less competition for those places that are renting, so the prices will go down with more housing. »

While others are against it.

Letasha Burquez, opposed to downtown housing development, said, “Downtown housing is already a little overcrowded. The construction that has happened so far has been a little confusing, I know, for those of us who drive in this area all the time. Adding housing on top of what’s already happening with the roads, I think it would be a little chaotic.
