Ravichandran Ashwin has distanced himself from his father’s comments alleging that the Indian cricketer was constantly humiliated, which may have contributed to him announcing his retirement midway through the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.

“My father is not trained in the media, dey father Enna of Ithelaam (Oh, Dad, what’s all this),” Ashwin posted.

“I never thought you would follow this rich tradition of ‘Daddy Statements’. I ask you all to forgive him and leave him alone,” he added.

Ravichandran, Ashwin’s father had said it CNN News18: “I also found out at the last minute, actually. What was going through his mind, I don’t know. He just announced it. I too accepted it with full pleasure. I didn’t feel any feelings about it. But the way he gave his retirement, part of it I was very happy, part of it I wasn’t happy because he should have continued.”

“(Retiring) is his (Ashwin’s) wish and desire, I can’t interfere with it, but the way he gave it, there could be many reasons. Only Ashwin knows, perhaps a humiliation,” he added.
