Latest timeline and map of expected totals for snow arriving in the Boston area

Take advantage of the seasonal weather while you can, because we’re going to get some snow in the Boston area on Friday, followed by a deep freeze this weekend.

Thursday will be dry and partly sunny, but Friday will bring snow as colder air moves in and clouds form.

A wintry blast of arctic air will grip the region this weekend when temperatures drop significantly.

Chronology of the latest snowfall

A few sprinkles and flurries are possible during the day, although impacts will be low with nothing more than a patchy coating, Boston 25 Morning News Meteorologist Shiri Spear said. said in his latest forecast.

Friday evening, Spear said a “distant ocean storm would bring additional moisture,” bringing more consistent rain and snow to southeastern and eastern Massachusetts.

As temperatures drop overnight into early Saturday, Spear said it will become “increasingly likely that local roads will become slippery and snowy.”

Snow showers could persist through Saturday morning.

Snow amounts expected

Spear said 1 to 2 inches is likely for most towns east of Interstate 495, but some places could reach 3 inches.

Cape Cod and the islands may not be cool enough for significant accumulation.

A slush layer of up to 1 inch of snow is likely in these communities.

Arctic air is coming

A high near 30 degrees is expected on Saturday, while on Sunday it will only see highs in the 20s.
