Rockford taqueria feeds the hungry with prepaid meals

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Taqueria Las Catrinas has become the talk of the town ever since he posted about his special way of giving back to the community.

Located at 1508 Broadway, it stands out with the only pink door in the area. Inside, the business supports the community by donating its tips to prepay for meals for those in need.

Carlos Zambrano, the owner of Taqueria Las Catrinas, says, “We don’t judge, you know, it’s like you need it, you need it and that’s our policy. »

The idea came from Zambrano’s husband, Gilberto Arellano. The couple has already helped the community by distributing food where they can. Arellano got the idea for the donation board from social media.

Zambrano says, “Even though it was a two-dollar tip, it was a soda. Or a five dollar tip, it was like he reduced it to two tacos and a soda or something. This is how he is able to prepare all these meals.

This way of giving is not reserved for holidays but will be a year-round tradition at Las Catrinas. The couple encourages others to tip or pay for a meal to support the cause.

Zambrano says, “We found that it was a positive thing for our community and our surrounding community. We have received a lot of positive feedback about it and we continue to do so.”

To keep giving, Zambrano and Arellano plan to be open for a few hours on Christmas. To follow the news, you can visit the company’s Facebook Las Catrinas.
