Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Friday met Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur ahead of a meeting of the apex committee to address the law and order situation in Kurram district.

Kurram has been gripped by weeks-long clashes that have left at least 130 people dead and many others injured or displaced since last month.

During today’s meeting, Naqvi and CM Gandapur discussed ways to establish peace in Kurram, with the Home Minister extending “all possible cooperation” to the KP government.

Mohsin Naqvi highlighted the importance of strengthening the capacity of law enforcement agencies in the province and reiterated that restoring peace to Kurram was a top priority. He also stressed the need for a long-term peace strategy including consultations with all relevant stakeholders.

Naqvi and Gandapur paid tribute to the security personnel martyred in the fight against terrorism during their discussions.

The apex committee meeting will be held today, which will be attended by senior civil and military officials, members of the provincial cabinet and representatives of concerned divisional and district administrations.

Key decisions are expected to be taken regarding the provision of essential goods to the people of Kurram and the establishment of lasting peace in the region.

Further, CM Gandapur announced that wheat would be provided to Kurram residents at subsidized rates, directing the food department and district administration to take immediate steps to implement the decision.
