Despite weeks of negotiations over an extension of his contract with Liverpool, no agreement has been reached between the two parties. Amid the ongoing contract drama, a Spanish media outlet has reported that the left winger is reportedly positioning himself for a move to Barcelona.

Liverpool striker Luis Diaz is reportedly pushing for a move from Barcelona as his contract extension negotiations continue to stall. The 27-year-old Colombian striker has been one of the Reds’ best players over the past two years. Therefore, Liverpool manager Arne Slot considers him a key player and was actively involved in extending his contract for five years. Despite weeks of negotiations, no agreement was reached between the two parties. Amid the ongoing contract drama, Spanish outlet Antena 2 reported that the left winger has reportedly “positioned himself” to join Barcelona.

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick is considering strengthening the club’s attack by adding Diaz to the squad. The former Bayern Munich manager sees the 27-year-old Colombian as a key part of his project. Flick’s interest in the winger also matches the views of the club’s sporting director Deco. He sees Diaz as an ideal option for the near future.

Diaz arrived at Anfield from FC Porto in January 2022 and has been one of Liverpool’s best players ever since. He has signed a five-year contract with the Premier League leaders which ties him to the club until 2027. With more than two years remaining on his contract, Liverpool could consider securing a handsome sum for the young striker he moves to Spain. Diaz has played for Liverpool in 22 matches this season. With his nine goals and three assists, the Colombian was decisive in his club’s impressive championship campaign.

Although Diaz may prefer to move to Barcelona, ​​successfully completing a deal will be tricky for the Blaugrana. The report from Antena 2 claims that Diaz is valued at €80 million, which is likely well beyond Barcelona’s budget. The La Liga giants will also face stiff competition for the player’s signature from other top European teams such as Paris Saint-Germain. The Parisians would also seek to consolidate their left wing. Reaching a deal for Diaz will add more depth to PSG’s offense.

Amid transfer speculation, Diaz will look to continue to develop at Liverpool by getting more playing time in upcoming matches.
