Penn State returns uniform

Penn State football social media accounts frequently discussed the possibility Friday. And then Penn State confirmed it: The Nittany Lions will wear their “Generations of Greatness” throwback uniforms Saturday against SMU.

Penn State will wear the uniform for the second time this season, which is a first. This is usually the official homecoming dress code, but the playoffs deserve something special.

A reminder about adjustment. The “Generations of Greatness” uniform recognizes several periods of Penn State football history. The helmet numbers date back to the late 1950s and another period from 1967 to 1974. The white cleats pay homage to the 1979 Sugar Bowl shoes. The gray facemask was a staple from 1959 to 1986. And the gloves feature the shrine Nittany Lions on the palm. They should be a success.

What will the Beaver Stadium crowd be like?

Unless a big late buyer steps in, the game is unlikely to sell. Ticket resale began at $40, before fees, on Ticketmaster on Friday evening. This is less than half of its face value. Many student section tickets were available as the sections were not sold out. Even though the game won’t set an attendance record, Beaver Stadium will still be loud.

“We’ve been knocking on the door (of the College Football Playoff) for a long time,” said Ethan Connor, president of the association. Nittanyville student organizationsaid. “I know the people of Nittanyville are ready to run through a brick wall. I know I am. But even the casuals I talk to are really excited because we’re competing for a national championship.
