Torres and Braley win titles at Knuutila Memorial Tournament | News, Sports, Jobs

SANBORN — Southwestern’s Adrian Torres and Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s Patrick Braley were the only local wrestlers to win titles at the fifth annual Linda C. Knuutila Memorial Wrestling Tournament this weekend at Niagara County Community College.

Torres won the 108-pound weight class with a 3-2 victory over Tioga’s Declan McKee in overtime of their championship bout. Braley won the 190-pound title with a 1:11 pinfall over Noah Leavell of Hamburg in the final.

Dylan Newman of Falconer/Cassadaga Valley, Carmine Calimeri of Southwestern, Tyler Zwald of Jamestown, Caden Inkley of Randolph and Mason Maring of Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer all left Sanborn with second place.

Newman was the runner-up at 124 pounds after losing a 22-5 technical fall to Brayden Kellison of Williamsville North. Calimeri finished second at 131 pounds after falling 15-0 by technical fall to Trevor DellaPenta of Eden. Zwald finished second at 138 pounds with a 10-0 loss to Tioga’s Jayden Duncanson. Inkley was the runner-up at 160 pounds after losing 12-10 to Rory White of St. Francis. And Maring was defeated in 4:36 by William Wortkoetter of St. Francis in the 285-pound final.

Cole Bloomquist of Jamestown finished third at 170 pounds with a pin of Ronan Klug of Barker/Royalton-Hartland in 1:07.

Thandon Bensink (124 pounds) of Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer and teammate Colton Hamilton (215 pounds) finished fourth in their respective weight classes.

Local sixth-place finishers included Chase Shirley of Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer (101 pounds) and Brayden McCarthy of Falconer/Cassadaga Valley (138 pounds).

Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer finished third as a team with 145.5 points, while Falconer/Cassadaga Valley was fifth (127.5).
