Alex Corretja and Mats Wilander disagree on 2025 Australian Open and world No.1 picks

Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina were a bone of contention when it came to former players and pundits Alex Corretja and Mats Wilander as they gave their opinions on Eurosport for 2025.

While Laura Robson also chose the current champion and world No. 1. Tim Henman chose Zheng Qinwen to add his first Grand Slam title. But Corretja stressed that he thought Elena Rybakina would do it and finish world No. 1 this year.

“I’m going to pick (Elena) Rybakina. I actually think she could finish No. 1 this year,” he said. Which Wilander answered for the next question about who will be number one. “Aryna Sabalenka is much better than Elena Rybakina, Alex.”

When asked who would win the women’s Australian Open, Wilander said Sabalenka would win a third consecutive title. “Aryna Sabalenka will win yet another Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. That will make it three in a row,” he told Eurosport.

Who will be right at the end of the season. Well, Robson and Henman also had different views on Sabalenka and Swiatek.

But experts were mostly unanimous when it came to Rybakina being the more successful coaching team alongside Goran Ivanisevic, with only Wilander deviating again to pick Andy Murray’s new union with Novak Djokovic. Lots of interesting choices ahead of the new season which begins with the United Cup on December 27.
