O2 data reveals that more than two million customers spent Christmas abroad in December 2023, an increase of 48% on 2022’s record 1.4 million. This upward trend is expected to continue , with around six million Britons planning to travel abroad this Christmas.

Spain tops the list of destinations in 2023, attracting 20% ​​of festive travelers, followed by Ireland (13%), France (12%) and Italy (4%). Meanwhile, 650,000 adventurers traveled further afield, with the United States (6%), Australia (3%) and the United Arab Emirates (2%) among the most popular long-haul destinations.

However, without proper planning, festive travelers risk facing costly roaming charges. Christian Hindennach, commercial director at Virgin Media O2, said: “The festive period can be an expensive time, so no one needs the added burden of unwanted roaming charges. »
