Court orders to freeze 35 bank accounts of Saloon Joardar and his family members

DHAKA, December 23, 2024 (BSS) – The Dhaka Metropolitan Court today ordered freezing of a total of 35 bank accounts of former Chuadanga-1 constituency legislator Solaiman Haque Joardar Saloon, his wife Aktari Joardar and his daughter Tabshina Jannat.

Acting judge of the court Md Ibrahim Miah today made the order following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Among the accounts, 17 belong to Solaiman Haque Joardar Saloon, 13 belong to Aktari Joardar and five accounts in the name of Tabshina Jannat.

Md Mahmudul Hassan, Deputy Director of ACC submitted the petition to the court where ACC Public Prosecutor Mir Ahmmed Ali Salam defended the petitioner. The court, after hearing the prosecutor’s arguments, issued the order.

In its petition, the ACC urged the court to freeze these 35 accounts with different banks, alleging that the former lawmaker acquired huge sums of money and properties using illegal power and through corruptions in his own name and that of his family members.

During its investigation, the ACC learned that account holders were able to remit, transfer and divert money deposited in these savings, current and fixed accounts to other accounts. If they can transfer the money, it would be very difficult to get it back, the ACC petition adds.

The ACC prayed for freezing of these accounts under Section 14 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2012.
