Former president of conservative KCL says sex between siblings should not be banned

Charles Amos also said that “gay people contracting HIV” are a burden on the NHS.

A former president of the Conservative association at King’s College London has said that sexual relations between siblings should not be banned.

On Thursday (December 19), Charles Amos said live on GB News that incestuous relationships between cousins and siblings should not be banned in the UK.

He told the hosts, Andrew Pierce and Ellie Costello, that “individuals should be free to marry and have children with almost anyone they want”, and when asked if he would include siblings in this, Charles replied: “I would include siblings in that. »

The rather unusual debate comes after Conservative MP Richard Holden called for a ban on first cousin marriages in the UK.

Defending his view, Charles told presenters: “If you look at the number of birth defects in individuals who are father and daughter or brother and sister, it’s about 57 percent, and even if you can say: ‘Well, that’s absolutely terrible, “I would know that these individuals wouldn’t exist at all without these marriages that created them, so they wouldn’t be in a worse situation.”

He then went on to say, “It’s better to have these birth defects and exist than not exist at all.” »

When host Andrew Pierce retorted that birth defects are “a burden on the NHS”, Charles agreed but said that “just like gay men who contract HIV are too”.

Adding: “We don’t ban gay sex, do we?

The GB News panel hosts appeared shocked by Charles’ comments. Host Ellie Costello told KCL graduates that incest has been considered incredibly wrong for centuries because it could create “catastrophic disadvantages” for the children who result from it.

Further reflecting on Charles’s defense that an existence with a birth defect is better than no existence at all, Ellie calls his argument “strange” and exclaims that children born from rape would not exist , but that does not make rape “morally acceptable”. “.

However, Charles maintained that people with disabilities can still live fulfilling lives, adding that his position is not totalitarian, but rather that of hosts Pierce and Costello.

He said: “You are not helping children by banning cousin marriage. »

Charles was also asked if he agreed with the age of consent. He said he was not “willing to discuss it” at this time and would perhaps discuss it in an academic journal article in the future.

However, when asked about it by The King’s Tab, Charles replied: “I believe in the age of consent. »

Charles, who is a political commentator, graduated from King’s in 2022 with a degree in political economy.

However, during his time at the university, he became the subject of significant controversy when he was removed from his presidency of KCLCA after a unanimous vote of censure was brought against him by other members of the association.

The vote came after Charles publicly declarations about his opposition to same-sex marriage, his desire to privatize all education and the NHS, and finally, as Charles describes it, “private ethnically based alliance communities”.

Following his appearance on GB News last week, Charles has since posted a Substack fully defending his belief in incest as being okay.

When the King’s Tab asked Charles if he wanted to comment on the reports, he replied: “It’s good to have children with a family as long as they have a worthwhile life, as the vast majority of people with disabilities. »
