Whether you prefer to use your device’s built-in features or a computer, here’s how to reset your iPhone and restore factory settings.

Before performing a reset, ensure the following:

  • iOS version: Your device must be running iOS 15.2 or later.
  • Network connection: Connect your iPhone to a cellular or Wi-Fi network.
  • Apple IDs: Have your Apple ID and password ready; These were used during the initial setup of your device.

Here’s how to directly erase your iPhone:

  1. From the lock screen, enter your password several times until the “iPhone unavailable” message appears, prompting you to try again later.
  2. Once available, tap “Forgot your password?” » option located in the bottom corner of the screen.
  3. On the security lock screen, tap “Erase iPhone” to confirm.
  4. Enter your Apple ID password to sign out of your account on the device.
  5. Tap “Erase iPhone” to permanently delete all data and settings.
  6. If you’re using an eSIM with iOS 17 or later, choose to keep or remove your eSIM during the erase process.
  7. After restarting the device, follow the on-screen instructions to configure it again, restore data and settings from a backup, and create a new password.
