Davis was ready to defend his WBA lightweight title against Roach on March 1 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Roach is the reigning WBA super featherweight champion and was recently granted “special permission” from the main sanctioning body to move up in weight and fight for a world title in a second weight class while retaining his strap of 130 pounds.

However, the fight now appears off the table judging by Davis’ latest Instagram post.

Picking up his story from Monday night, ‘Tank’ wrote: “The fight is f***ing canceled.”

At the same time that Davis announced the cancellation of their fight, Roach posted a video of himself shadow boxing in the gym after sparring with welterweight boxer Mykal Fox.

He later released a statement suggesting he had no idea the competition had been canceled.

“What do you keep asking me?” he wrote on his Instagram Story hours after Davis’ initial post.

“He said it wasn’t me. I’m locked up, it didn’t change anything.

“March 1st Brooklyn #Andthenew.”

It remains to be seen whether the fight will continue.

At the time of writing, you can still purchase Davis vs Roach tickets online while the event’s promoter, PBC, has not released a statement on the matter.

Davis and Roach were originally scheduled to face each other on December 14 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

But the fight was pushed back three months due to a scheduling conflict.

Roach clinched the WBA super featherweight bracelet by beating Hector Luis Garcia by split decision in November 2023 and defended it against Feargal McCrory in June.

Davis, who previously held the IBF and WBA super featherweight straps, was elevated from “regular” to full-fledged WBA world champion in November 2023 when Devin Haney left the belt.

The Baltimore boxer defended his full world title for the first time in June with an eighth-round knockout victory over Frank Martin.

Boxing fans were hoping to see Davis square off with Vasyl Lomachenko next in a WBA and IBF unification fight, although negotiations broke down in June when the Ukrainian chose to walk away from the sport.
