Punjab AAP leaders meet Jagjit Dallewal, extend support to farmers

Extending support to farmers’ demands, a delegation of Punjab’s ruling AAP on Wednesday met farmers’ leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal at the Khanauri protest site and urged him to undergo medical treatment, saying his health is “important”.

Dallewal’s fast unto death entered its 31st day on Wednesday.

The delegation included Punjab Minister and AAP State Unit President Aman Arora, Ministers Gurmeet Singh Khudian, Balbir Singh, Barinder Kumar Goyal, Hardeep Singh Mundian, Tarunpreet Singh Sond, Laljit Singh Bhullar and party’s state unit working president Amansher Singh Sherry Kalsi among others. .

Dallewal (70) has been sitting fasting unto death at the Khanauri border since November 26 to put pressure on the Center to accept farmers’ demands, including legal guarantee of minimum support price ( MSP).

The farmer leader did not eat anything during his fast and just took water, doctors from an NGO who treated him said earlier.

They also described his condition as “critical.”

Doctors examine him regularly. However, Dallewal refused to undergo any treatment despite his deteriorating health condition.

Speaking to reporters after meeting Dallewal, Aman Arora said that due to the Centre’s “bad policies”, farmers had to carry out a year-long agitation on Delhi’s borders against the now repealed farm laws and since ten months, the farmers were agitated again in Shambhu. and the borders of Khanauri for their requests.

He claimed that the Center had failed to fulfill the promises it had made to farmers when the farm laws were repealed.

“It’s been a month of fasting for Dallewal. His agitation is over genuine demands and he is fighting for Punjab, but we know the Centre’s indifferent attitude,” Arora said.

“We told Dallewal Sahab that the AAP government, our party and the entire Punjab were with them in their agitation. But we told him that for the agitation to succeed and achieve its goal, whoever leads it is important,” Arora said. .

Arora said that from time to time, AAP MPs and their allies raised the issue of farmers in Parliament, but the Center was not ready to listen.

He also said that recently, a delegation of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had raised the issue of Dallewal’s health with Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and urged him to intervene and put pressure on the Center to that he begins talks with the protesting farmers.

“Today we asked Dallewal ji that if he gives up his hunger strike, it would be good,” Arora said, while adding that if the farmer leader wants to continue his hunger strike, “at least he should not refuse medical treatment as his internal organs are also affected.”

“We came with the hope that Dallewal would agree to our request,” he said.

However, later, farmer leader Abhimanyu Kohar said that until the legal guarantee to the MSP’s demand was not accepted, the Dallewal fast would continue as before.

“Dallewal ji made it clear yesterday from the stage,” Kohar said.

Dallewal told Aman Arora on Wednesday that crop diversification cannot take place until the Center gives a legal guarantee to the MSP.

Arora said that given the Centre’s “indifference and shamelessness”, “we all know that this agitation is going to continue for a long time and for this Dallewal sahab is important”.

Replying to a question, he said if Dallewal tells the AAP or the state party government that a particular thing needs to be done so that they can fight strongly against the agitation for their real demands , we are ready to do it.

To another question, Arora said, “If farmers want, we can call an all-party meeting. But all know what the BJP’s stand would be regarding the farmers’ demands regarding the Centre. What we are saying is that such a strategy should be there and deliver results. “.

Asked if Dallewal had said he should not be evicted from his protest site, Aman Arora said the government had no intention of doing so and called anyone circulating anything baseless. such rumors.

Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh expressed concern over Dallewal’s health.

He said our medical team had already been sent to the protest site.

“We are concerned about his health. We are telling him that he should at least undergo medical treatment. If they agree, we can start the treatment there,” Balbir Singh said.

Earlier in the day, Amritsar Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla also met Dallewal at Khanauri.

Aujla said he went to inquire about his well-being.

Expressing concern over his prolonged fast, Aujla told reporters that he had requested Dallewal that people need his advice and people need leaders like him and his health is important.

He said Dallewal told him that political leaders should put pressure on the central government regarding the farmers’ demands.

The farmers, under the banner of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, have been camping at Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana since February 13 after their march towards Delhi was stopped by the security forces.

A ‘jatha (group)’ of 101 farmers attempted to march towards Delhi three times between December 6 and 14, but were stopped by security personnel in Haryana.
