Call the Life of Midwife Reggie, star Daniel Laurie, off-screen | Television and radio | Showbiz and television

Call the Midwife returns for two Christmas specials followed by series 14 which will air in the new year, with Daniel Laurie set to reprise his role as Reggie Jackson in the series. BBC period drama.

Kind-hearted Reggie first appeared in Poplar during the sixth series, in 2017, when his mother died suddenly of a heart attack while visiting a church. Reggie waited for his mother to come home, but she never did in heartbreaking scenes.

The nuns and nurses at Nonnatus House quickly stepped in to care for Reggie before his distant cousin Fred Buckle (Cliff Parisi) took him in. Violet Buckle (Annabelle Apsion) and Fred now treat Reggie like a son.

As Reggie has Down syndrome, he secured a permanent place at the Glasshouse Trust, a community care facility for young adults with disabilities, and regularly visits family and friends in the East End.

But outside of the period drama, Daniel has a famous father and has also appeared in other popular TV shows. Here’s everything you need to know about the TV star as Call the Midwife returns.

Born in 1995, Daniel is currently 29 years old. In his late teens, he attended drama school in London, but has confirmed that he was forced to abandon his studies due to bullying before becoming famous on the field. BBC period drama.

He has spoken candidly about his struggles with bullies, which led him to leave school before finding solace in embarking on an acting career at the age of 17.

Talk to The mirror in 2022, Daniel explained: “I hated school. I was bullied badly and that made me leave school, but because of that, acting found me when I was 17.”

He added: “I can’t forgive myself for leaving, but thanks to (series creator) Heidi Thomas, I bonded and became friends with the cast. Had it not been for Call The Midwife, where else would I be?

“The whole show is female-led and I love being on Call The Midwife because of them, they make the show what it is. It’s a fantastic show. I love being on the show. We’re all linked.”

It seems that acting talent runs in Daniel’s family, as he is the son of a late actor and EastEnders caption Leslie Grantham.

Grantham played “Dirty” Den Watts in the BBC soap and was an original cast member when the soap launched in 1985, before being killed off in 1989. He later returned to EastEnders in 2003 for two more years in an epic comeback storyline.

In an interview given in 2006 to Daily MailDaniel’s mother Jane praised Leslie as a “fantastic” father. She said: “When he was just a few days old, Leslie looked at the baby and said ‘you know, there are some hard things in life, but this isn’t one of them’.”

Grantham died in 2018, leaving behind his three sons and his ex-wife. Actor Cliff Parisi worked alongside Grantham during their time in EastEnders together before working closely with her real son Daniel in Call the Midwife.

Daniel’s big break into major roles came in 2016 with the role of Jamie in Sky One’s comedy-drama Stella, where he worked alongside Gavin and Stacey’s Ruth Jones, the mind behind the creation.

His trajectory continued upward with a stint as Adam Beecher in an episode of ITV’s Vera in 2020 and portraying Sheemie in The Dark Tower.

In 2021, Daniel took on the role of Zach in ITV drama Finding Alice, starring TV favorites Keeley Hawes, Nigel Havers and Joanna Lumley.

Daniel is set to return as Reggie Jackson in Call the Midwife this Christmas, airing on BBC One on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Then season 14 will follow in the new year, which is expected to feature 8-hour episodes. The creators of the series have confirmed that season 15 of the series is also guaranteed and it is expected to premiere in 2026.
