Actor Kamal Haasan remembers late writer MT Vasudevan Nair, acknowledging the major role played by MT in inspiring his love for cinema. Speaking to Mathrubhumi News, Kamal also said that MT’s literary legacy would live on in people’s minds for many years to come.

“If my love and passion for cinema was a small lamp, it was the film Nirmalyam that turned it into fire. As far as I am concerned, Satyajit Ray, MT Sir, Girish Karnad and Shyam Benegal, although born in different places, are all brothers. It is not only MT who has succeeded, but also the Malayalis, the world of Malayalam literature and cinema. MT Sir will live with us and beyond us for many more centuries through his literature. I don’t want to say goodbye to you, sir; Forgive me.”

MT Vasudevan Nair died at 10 pm on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode. He was surrounded by his daughter Aswathi, son-in-law Srikanth and grandson Madhav at the time of his death. A two-day mourning period was declared in the state to mourn his loss.

Actor Kamal Haasan also shared a sincere note of mourning on his X account, expressing sadness over the death of MT Vasudevan Nair. In his message, Kamal acknowledged MT’s profound impact on his cinematic journey and emphasized that the writer’s legacy would live on for centuries through his literature.
