Major UK airport issues warning to Britons after heavy fog causes flight delays | United Kingdom | News

Flights at Manchester Airport were hit by heavy fog on Boxing Day, with long arrival delays.

Other airports were also affected due to adverse weather conditions; Boxing Day football matches have also been canceled in the North West due to poor visibility.

Despite yesterday’s weather problems, passengers on flights from Manchester are still being asked to continue to arrive at the airport in line with the standard advice: arrive two hours early for short-haul flights and three hours early long-haul flights.

Angry holidaymakers posted updates on social media, with one saying: ‘Just when you want to go home, we’re sitting on the plane, delayed for an hour because fog at Manchester airport.”

According to the Manchester Airport Disruption Committee, flights were affected throughout the day. Most flights due to arrive at the airport on Boxing Day afternoon were delayed, with some landing up to two hours late. This could have a ripple effect all the way to today.

Some flights which were due to arrive from 5:30 p.m., notably from Turkey and Greece, were delayed.

And most flights scheduled to depart earlier in the day were also delayed by an hour or more.

In a statement, Manchester Airport said yesterday: “Like most airports across the country, we have experienced delays due to fog.

“In most cases, these delays have been short and have not disrupted our schedule.

“Passengers who need to travel should prepare as normal and aim to arrive at the airport in accordance with their airline’s advice – this is usually two hours before a short-haul flight and three hours before a long-haul flight .”
