More meat products recalled due to listeria concerns. Is Ohio affected?

Yu Shang Food, Inc. recalled 72,240 pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products related to a potential listeria contamination. A a baby in California has died following the outbreak, with 11 people falling ill.

Here’s what we know about the recall and its impact on Ohio.

Which meat products have been recalled?

Yu Shang Food, Inc.., initially recalled more than 4,500 pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products, but has since increased the number of items to be removed from national retailers as well as their availability online.

According to the USDArecalled products, manufactured between October 21 and 27, 2024, have a “used by” date range of August 21 to 27, 2025. They also have an establishment number of “P-46684” or “EST. M46684” inside. the USDA mark of inspection.

The retail distribution list has not yet been released by the USDA, according to the recall notice.

Here are the recalled items:

  • Japanese Chashu Pork Belly (16 ounce vacuum packed)
  • Yushang Brand Cooked Chicken (20oz Vacuum Pack)
  • Braised pork belly with brown sauce (16 ounces)
  • Seasoned Pork Shank (20 ounces)
  • Yushang brand cooked pork knuckle (1.4 pounds)
  • Chinese Brand Spicy Chicken Feet (8 ounces)
  • Bazhen Seasoned Whole Chicken (20 ounces)
  • Braised beef shank (16 ounces)
  • Seasoned pork tongues (12 ounces)

As with Yu Shang’s recalled products, listeria outbreaks have previously been detected in other products like frozen waffles And chickenwhich resulted in hundreds of hospitalizations and multiple deaths due to listeria poisoning.

Has Ohio reported cases of listeria linked to the Yu Shang meat recall?

No cases of listeria have been reported in the Yu Shang Food recall in Ohio at this time, but the Ohio Department of Health provided information on the recall as well as advice to consumers.

California has seven cases, the highest number reported so far. There are two other cases in Illinois, one in New York and one in New Jersey.

What should you do if you have recalled products?

The USDA is urging customers who purchased the recalled products not to consume them. Products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

What are the symptoms of listeria?

It can take three to four weeks to determine if a person is sick from the outbreak, and symptoms can vary from person to person. Columbus Expedition reports. Symptoms of the disease include:

  • Fever
  • Flu-like symptoms, such as muscle aches and fatigue
  • Headache
  • Stiff neck
  • Confusion
  • Loss of balance
  • Seizures

The CDC recommends seeing a doctor if you have symptoms of listeria.
