See some botanical illustrations by Sonoma County artists, enjoy a Sunday sunset stroll, and participate in festive celebrations at the Sonoma Firehouse.

December 8

Saint Rose: Join Sonoma County Regional Parks for their Sunday Sunset Walk in Taylor Mountain Regional Park and Preserve. This leisurely hike spans 1 to 2.5 miles and is intended to help participants unwind after the week. $5 for Sonoma County residents, $7 for out-of-county residents. 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Parking is $7 or free with a regional parks membership pass. 2080, Kawana Terrace. sonomacountyparks.org

Napa: Chip Bouril of the Napa Valley Land Trust will lead a work crew at Sutro Ranch. Participants will spend the morning with volunteers cutting invasive Himalayan blackberries on the 1,380-acre ranch atop Atlas Peak. Wear sturdy shoes, long pants and clothing appropriate for the weather. Tools, gloves and instructions will be provided. Minors must be accompanied by an adult and an optional hike will take place afterwards. Time and details to follow after registration. Free. Saint Rose: The Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation is hosting its holiday open house at the Laguna Environmental Center. “Flora of the Laguna” features botanical illustrations created by Sonoma County artists using colored pencils, ink and watercolor. The images focus on the conservation and restoration of native plants in the Laguna. Some artists will lead a botanical drawing activity suitable for all ages, materials provided. Saint Rose: LandPaths will host a Charlie Brown tree giveaway at Bayer Farm. Grab a Douglas fir before they all disappear. Bring your own straps, ropes and plan to take the tree home. Sonoma: The Sonoma Petaluma Parks Association and Sonoma State Historic Park will host a Northern Border Vacation at the Sonoma Barracks. There will be Christmas carols, refreshments, crafts, Santa, a gift shop, live music and tours of the firehouse. Napa: Mark Smith and Chip Bouril will lead a strenuous nine-mile hike through the Hoffnagle Loop in Wildlake. This hike will take participants through Dunn-Wildlake Preserve, Three Peaks, Rattlesnake Ridge, Bell Canyon Creek, and Poppy Flat. Hiking shoes are required.
