When you plan to go out and leave your charger at home, it’s a good idea to enable Low Power Mode on your Apple devices. While it is pretty easy to enable low power mode on iPhone and iPadEnabling Low Power Mode on Mac requires a few extra clicks. When you enable Low Power Mode, your Mac reduces its power consumption to increase battery life, although it may slightly reduce brightness and performance. To enable Low Power Mode on your Mac, click the Apple logo in the upper left corner of your Mac screen and go to System Settings > Battery. On this page you will see the Low power mode shown at the top. Select the drop-down menu next to Low power mode and choose Always, Only on batteryOr Only on AC adapter. This will put your Mac into low power mode when the appropriate conditions are met.

I like to use low power mode whenever my Mac is unplugged (or only on battery), because that usually means I’m away from my desk and it would help if my laptop lasted as long as possible. However, you may prefer to enable it when plugged in or always, depending on how you use your Mac.
