The 2024 World Chess Championship is tied with the battle between D Gukesh and Ding Liren tied 4.5-4.5 after nine matches. The battle for the world chess title was
briefly stopped for a rest day Friday (December 6) and action resumes on Saturday, December 7 with Match 10 between Liren and Gukesh at Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore.

So far, Gukesh and Ding have each won a match while the other
seven matches ended in a draw.

The 2024 World Chess Championship, consisting of 14 games, has
still five games to play and the first player to reach 7.5 points will be crowned world champion. But whoever wins, Gukesh and Liren stand to be millions richer as the World Chess Championship 2024 has a total prize pool of $2.5 million (Rs 20.8 crore approx).

With nine matches completed so far, let’s take a look at how much money Gukesh has already won from the total pool.

Prize rules for the 2024 World Chess Championship

As per the prize money rules of the World Chess Championship 2024, each victory will allow a player to win $200,000 (Rs 1.67 crore). It means both Ding and Gukesh
have already won $200,000 (Rs 1.67 crore) respectively of the total prize pool by winning one game each.

They will earn $200,000 (Rs 1.67 crore) more for every win they get from now on, while the balance of the remaining prize money
will be distributed equally among the players.

So, according to the rules, Gukesh has so far earned only $200,000 (Rs 1.67 crore) from the prize money with a win (game 3), but it is expected to increase depending on the final result. More wins will yield more money, otherwise the balance of the prize money will be shared equally among players.

There is one more condition. If the World Chess Championship 2024 ends in a tie and the winner is decided by tiebreaker, then the champion will receive $1.3 million (Rs 10.83 crore approximately) while the runner-up will take home 1 .2 million dollars (Rs 10 crore approximately).

Additionally, each player received $200,000 (Rs 1.67 crore) in advance a month before the first match of the World Chess Championship 2024. This amount will be deducted from their winnings. They will receive the remaining balance within 14 business days after the conclusion of the 2024 World Chess Championship.
