‘We will fight for the title,’ says Orlando Pirates coach

Orlando Pirates Coach José Riveiro keeps Orlando Stadium bouncing.

An early season triumph in the MTN8 Cup – Riveiro’s third in a row – laid the foundations for an exceptional start to the season, going unbeaten for seven games before losing to Stellenbosch FC in their final PSL outing.

The Buccaneers are co-leaders with reigning champions Mamelodi Sundown conceding a league-best three goals while scoring thirteen – Evidence Makgopa has four to his name.

Title contenders?

Orlando Pirates hunt for their first PSL title in thirteen years, coming closest in 2019 when they avoided glory by just two points.

This year, however, the situation is different; and it seems Riveiro feels the same way saying: “We have the same number of points with Sundowns but we are separated by goal difference at the moment, but it’s only been eight games we have to play 30 games,

“Believe me, we are here to compete and we know how difficult it can be. Winning every match is a challenge, but we are ready to fight for the title until the last match.

“We would like to be first with a 10-point lead, but I know sometimes it’s not possible because of the level of the league,” Riveiro said. “We are now preparing for the next match and we will fight until the last match.”
