Expect heavy rain through Wednesday afternoon.

RICHMOND, Va. — More widespread heavy rain and even a few thunderstorms will be possible Wednesday. A Marginal (Level 1) threat for severe weather will exist over Southeast Virginia.

Rainfall totals of more than an inch appear likely. Temperatures Wednesday will be mild through the afternoon, with much cooler air arriving thanks to strong northwest winds behind Wednesday evening’s cold front.

Thursday through Friday will see significantly colder weather, with highs in the 40s. Winds will be quite strong on Thursday but much lighter on Friday.

The weekend now looks to be mostly cloudy and cool, as a wedge of cold surface air may become trapped east of the mountains due to high pressure building over New England.

A few showers will be possible Sunday and Monday.
