Sainsbury’s has launched a new local store at one of the UK’s busiest airports.

Passengers traveling to and from Edinburgh Airport will now be able to collect food, drinksand last-minute travel essentials at the new convenience store.

The local Sainsbury’s opened on December 12, replacing the previous tenant, M.S.. Located before security, the new store will be open 24 hours a day, serving arriving and departing passengers as well as airport staff.

It is the first Sainsbury’s store to be located in an airport, and its arrival is part of a “major overhaul” of the shopping options available at Edinburgh Airport, according to the supermarket.

The store will stock a range of items including Sainsbury’s meal dealsfruits and vegetables, meats, fish and bakery products. It will also offer a “bespoke Scottish selection”, featuring locally sourced favourites.

As with any other Sainsbury’s store, customers can take advantage of its Click & Collect service, allowing them to order online from ArgosHabitat and Tu Clothing for the collection.

Sainsbury’s first announced the opening in October, as part of its strategy to expand its convenience store estate which began in 2023. The retailer aims to open between 20 and 25 new convenience stores each year.

Patrick Dunne, Sainsbury’s director of property, purchasing and electrical businesses, said: “We are very excited to launch Sainsbury’s Local in a completely new setting for the first time today with the opening of our Edinburgh Airport.
