Malema defends post-matric qualification proposal for EFF leaders

JOHANNESBURG – Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has defended his proposal that anyone seeking the party’s top leadership positions must have a post-matric qualification.

The party is holding its election conference at Nasrec in Johannesburg this weekend, where it will table a motion to include the demand in its constitution.

Speaking at a press briefing on the sidelines of the conference, Malema said the requirement for post-matric qualifications would ensure the party was able to govern effectively.

Some fear that the EFF’s proposed constitutional amendment, which requires those seeking senior positions within the party to have a post-matric qualification, is unfair to those who do not have such qualifications.

However, Malema argued that there are many examples of the dangers posed by unqualified leaders, both within the party and the state.

“We will not have illiterate leaders. (Jacob) Zuma should have been a good example of why we don’t need such things. We must look at Zuma and say that such a thing must never happen. We want to give society the best of society.
