Shaw left out of Vijay Hazare’s squad, asks ‘what more should I see’

Problems continue to pile up for Prithvi Shaw, who on Tuesday expressed his frustration after being left out of Mumbai’s squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy which begins on December 21.

The 25-year-old, who was once hailed as a generational talent and scored a hundred on his Test debut, has had a season to forget.

He was dropped midway through the league stage of the Ranji Trophy due to fitness and discipline reasons, before returning for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) won by Mumbai. It also remained unsold in the IPL auction in November.

His performance in the first national event was not eye-catching, but he made a few 40s and as many 30s during the event.

“Tell me God, what more do I need to see? If 65 innings, 3399 runs at an average of 55.7 with a strike rate of 126 (to Vijay Hazare), I’m not good enough. But I will keep my faith in you and hopefully people still believe in me, because I will definitely come back,” Shaw wrote on his Instagram story.

Shreyas Iyer will captain the 17-man squad selected for the first three matches. After the SMAT, Iyer had said that everything was the limit for Shaw if he worked on his work ethic.

Ajinkya Rahane, who was Mumbai’s star batter at SMAT, had captained the 50-over team last season. Veteran spinner Shams Mulani is also not in the squad alongside Shaw.

Indian T20 skipper Suryakumar Yadav is also part of the squad.

Mumbai open their campaign against Karnataka in Ahmedabad on December 21.

Team: Shreyas lyer (captain), Ayush Mhatre, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Jay Bista, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Suryansh Sheedge, Siddhesh Lad, Hardik Tamore, Prasad Pawar (week), Atharva Ankolekar, Tanush Kotian, Shardul Thakur, Royston Dias, Juned Khan , Tanna hard, Vinayak Bhor.
