Ajit Doval in China to discuss LAC issues with Chinese Foreign Minister tomorrow

Identify and resolve controversial areas on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) In order to avoid future clashes, resumption of military patrols in parts of eastern Ladakh and resolution of outstanding issues are likely to be some of the points to be discussed by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval during the his talks with the Chinese foreign minister in Beijing on Wednesday.

Doval arrived in Beijing on Wednesday for talks between the two countries’ special representatives, accompanied by a small team of officials, government officials said. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will represent Beijing at the special representative-level talks.

The talks will take place after both sides agree and implement the decisions on disengagement in Demchok and Depsang in Ladakh, a major step forward to end a more than four-year military standoff, which began after Indian and Chinese troops engaged in conflict violent clash in the Galwan Valley in May 2020.

The two countries also started coordinated patrols. India Today TV has obtained exclusive information from top government sources on how the India-China disengagement talks were going at Dapsang and Demchok.

Apart from the 21 rounds of corps commander level talks between the two countries, several talks were also held at the high diplomatic level. On several occasions, talks stalled during corps commander level talks. In such a situation, channels of dialogue have been opened at the diplomatic level.

But over the past four years of deliberations, India has not bowed to Chinese pressure at any level and has remained firm on its stance regarding disengagement at Dapsang and Demchok.

India made it clear to China during military and diplomatic negotiations that it must restore April 2020 status to Galwan Valley, only then would disengagement be possible.

Over the past five years, China has been shaken by India’s growing power on the world stage. Beijing was under pressure following its successful hosting of the G20 summit in New Delhi last year. Apart from the G20, India’s importance within BRICS, SCO and Quad has also forced China to back down.

India Today TV has also learned that New Delhi in no hurry to move to the next stage of de-escalation in current circumstances. The military infrastructure that India has built in Ladakh over the last five years cannot be removed abruptly. India currently wants to maintain military and diplomatic pressure on China.

Following high-level discussions between Doval and Wang in St. Petersburg, Russia, the two sides agreed to accelerate efforts to resolve remaining border disputes and improve bilateral relations.

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar had also said that 75 percent of the region’s problems have been resolved and hoped for a complete resolution soon.
