GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – The sights and sounds of fall came to life at an eastern Carolina senior living center.

On Thursday, staff members hosted a fall festival at Brookdale Senior Living in Greenville.

Jan Thornton says events like this bring joy to residents.

“They know how people react to them, how happy they are and that’s all I’ve seen here since I’ve been here,” Thornton says. “They’ve had a lot to do, which is wonderful.”

Residents were treated to a special lunch, sweet and savory treats, activities and live music.

Program coordinator Crystal White says the event helps boost morale in the senior community.

“It’s important to us to provide them with everything they need to live their best lives,” White says. “So it could mean something really important, like a festival or family reunions. This could mean something as a resident-run club or perhaps some particular types of activities and interests they might have individually.

Officials say the center offers assisted living services and care for Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Robert Whitfield says the fall festival brings a smile to everyone’s face.

“It enlivens the whole community, it’s a fun activity for everyone and it makes the residents happy,” says Whitfield.

The center says it stopped the annual fall festival after COVID, but is happy it’s back.

Brookdale Senior Living is home to approximately 60 residents ranging in age from 65 to 98.
