Daniel Dubois vs Fabio Wardley won’t be next but can become ‘mega fight’ at Wembley Stadium, says Frank Warren | Boxing News

Daniel Dubois could return to Wembley Stadium for a future “mega fight” with another hard-hitting Brit, Fabio Wardley.

Wardley and Dubois have both starred in recent weeks, with IBF heavyweight champion Dubois knocking out Anthony Joshua at Wembley, while Wardley beat Frazer Clarke in one round to retain the British title.

This earned Wardley an IBF top 15 ranking, although an immediate world title shot is not yet in sight.

Fabio Wardley looks back on his incredible first round knockout of Frazer Clarke and how he prepared ahead of the fight.

“He won’t have the fight next, we’ve never even discussed it. Fabio would like that, I’m sure,” said their promoter Frank Warren. Aerial sports. “But we are in discussions right now with a few people (to fight Dubois).

“Fabio needs to fight someone in the top 10 now and do what he can do and show the world what he is,” Warren added.

“To really establish himself in this top 10, there are some good fights there, some big matches to make next year for him.”

Wardley is on a path that can lead him to a blockbuster showdown with Dubois.

“We can make it a mega, mega fight that will fill Wembley with two big punchers like that,” Warren explained.

“That’s what we have to work on. In the meantime, for Daniel, we are about to announce something in the next week. It will be a big fight for him in February.”

Oleksandr Usyk’s promoter Alexander Krassyuk says the unified heavyweight champion of the world could deliver a rematch to Daniel Dubois.

Contenders like Joseph Parker, who holds a WBO interim belt, and Zhilei Zhang, who knocked out Joe Joyce and is coming off a recent stoppage victory over Deontay Wilder, could be seen as potential opponents for Dubois’ title defense in February.

Terry Lane, Zhang’s manager, said Aerial sports: “Zhang would definitely enjoy the fight with Dubois.”

Parker bounced back from his loss to Joe Joyce with a streak of good wins, including against Wilder and Zhang.

“It has to be reasonable and for him to fight Daniel, he meets the criteria. He recovered in a big way after Joe Joyce,” Warren said.

“It would be a good fight by the way, I don’t have a problem with this fight but we have to see what happens and see how the dust settles. It will only take a week or so to get this beyond the line.”

AJ out of the picture?

Anthony Joshua says he would like to continue his boxing career despite Daniel Dubois’ domination which saw him stopped in five rounds and his promoter Eddie Hearn has expressed interest in a rematch.

Anthony Joshua disappeared from the account to get an immediate rematch with Dubois.

“We had been waiting to give AJ his opportunity because he said he wanted a rematch, but it didn’t happen, it doesn’t work, so here we are,” Warren said.

“I don’t see the next time it will be any different to be quite honest, how I see the fight. I think he has his number. I felt very strongly that when we made the fight, it was the perfect fight for Daniel and that’s how it turned out. He’ll feel even better going into a second fight after a fight as one-sided as it was.

“I don’t know what (Joshua’s) options are. Ultimately they will decide that between him and his team, but the goal of any heavyweight is to fight for the world title… He has to establish some AJ credibility, that’s for sure.”
