The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT) is seeking comment on plans to redesign the U.S. Highway 412 and Interstate 49 interchange in Springdale. A public meeting on the 0.72 mile project is scheduled for Thursday, November 7.

An online presentation shows ArDOT work 040984 is expected to improve traffic flow and safety on Highway 412 at the I-49 interchange. The project extends from just west of South Gene George Boulevard to Modern Drive on the east side of I-49.

The work includes widening Highway 412 to six lanes with a raised median west of I-49 and to a six-lane undivided section east of I-49. The work involves extending the I-49 southbound exit ramp and adding lanes for the southbound exit ramp and northbound and southbound entrance ramps. It also includes improved signals at all intersections and additional lanes for the Gene George Boulevard and 48th Street intersections with Highway 412. Construction is expected to begin in 2027.

Plans show the 15-foot-wide raised median on Highway 412 will extend from just east of the Gene George Boulevard intersection to just west of the exit and exit ramps. southbound entrance to I-49. On the east side of I-49, Highway 412 will be widened to include three westbound lanes, one center turn lane and two eastbound lanes.

According to a draft of ArDOT’s 2025-2028 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program, the expected cost of Job 040984 is $11.5 million.

The public meeting will be held Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Springdale City Hall, 201 Spring St. in Springdale. Comments on the draft will be accepted at the meeting.

According to ArDOT, the average daily traffic on Highway 412 west of I-49 is 43,000 vehicles. The average daily traffic on Highway 412 east of I-49 is 38,000 vehicles.
