The French star will not forgive Pieter-Steph du Toit for his “injustice” during the World Cup: Planet Rugby

French striker Jonathan Danty is still bitter about his exit to the Springboks at the Rugby World Cup and has refused to forgive Pieter-Steph du Toit for a perceived “injustice”.

The Blues strongman remains angry after believing the flanker should have been penalized for a clearance that hit his head in the quarter-final more than a year ago.

Danty remained on the pitch and played the full 80 minutes, but felt it was enough of an infraction to warrant intervention from the TMO.

This never happened and it was Springboks who then claimed a tense 29-28 triumph in the round of 16 en route to a fourth world title.

A repeat of the shock of 2022

Coincidentally, 12 months before this incident, From the Roof was sent off for another clearance on Danty during a November 2022 international that forced the France center to leave the field.

According to Danty, the flanker has apologized for the illegality, but the La Rochelle star is still seething over what he believes was the same type of hit at the World Cup.

“He sent me a message to apologize (for the first one). But the second time I found it quite surprising that it was quite a similar action,” he said. Olympic noon.

“I’m looking to steal the ball at the breakdown, but stealing balls a meter from the ruck… it can be a bit complicated. But that’s how it is.

“It’s an injustice, but beyond this action, I think it affects the whole match. I’m looking at the big screen at that point in the match and they decide to go into touch.

“Everything happens very quickly. Their number 10 takes the ball and kicks it into touch, and then we know it’s over.

“I get back into position, the touch is taken and it goes very quickly. But I think it might have been worth watching again.

The grudge remains

Time is said to heal, but not for Danty, who insists he will hold a grudge against Du Toit and would refuse to go for a beer with the two-time World Rugby Player of the Year if given the chance to clarify things.

“I recently saw on social media that Eben Etzebeth had reposted a video of his goalkeeper’s save saying that the ball was going backwards,” he added.

“These are bad memories, things that remain rather negative, but they are also part of the failures that allowed me to build myself and grow.

“Having a drink with Pieter-Steph du Toit in 10 years? Certainly not.”
