Bears and Cardinals Week 9 In-Game Blog

Second trimester

Conner fights his way to the 1 and gets kicked out of bounds. The fourth tackler recovered it.

The Tyrique Stevenson situation and Bears executives’ thoughts about their cornerback are apparently a much worse situation than previously thought. According to Fox’s Jay Glazer, Stevenson found out Wednesday that he wasn’t leaving and his reaction likely won him no friends in the locker room.

“On Wednesday, when he found out he wasn’t going, he pulled out of practice,” Glazer reported on Fox. “It didn’t really go well in that locker room.”

With the Bears being shorthanded in the secondary due to the absence of Jaquan Brisker, Kyler Gordon and now Stevenson early in the game, it wouldn’t be shocking if Stevenson ended up coming in quickly. Without Montez Sweat, their pass rush will certainly suffer. With 60% of their starters in the secondary, their coverage will certainly suffer.

If the Bears don’t lose two touchdowns at some point, it will be incredible.

During the week, Caleb Williams was asked if he would consider just becoming “Superman” and taking over a game. He has the Superman logo on his Twitter page. Maybe it’s time for Superman to do something with Sweat and three-fifths of the secondary on defense. They may have to outplay the Cardinals.

“I don’t think the thought of ‘it’s time to be Superman’ even crosses my mind,” Williams said. “I think there are times when you go out there and make plays and everyone calls it a Superman game. But, without the little things and details that come into play, let it be a game broken or just a routine play along your readings, there is no sense of a single Superman person on the team.

“I think the confidence and belief comes from teammates, from going out there and executing at a high level.”

It’s a team sport.

Still, they could use Superman or another superhero with all this adversity hitting the team.

Rather than being Superman, Williams might be better off asking his family members to stay off social media. His father sparked an outcry last week. As if the Bears needed another controversy.
