Local organization God’s Instruments gets a helping hand

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A local organization that is on the front lines of the fight to ensure families don’t go hungry has received help from Yark Automotive Group and 13 Action News.

God’s instruments brings new life to an old Eastwood movie theater on East Broadway and changes the lives of the community.

“We’re a store-style pantry, so we give them freedom of choice. They come in and choose what they want based on the size of their family,” said God’s Instruments President Pastor Matt Smith. “In our first distribution at the new location, we helped 138 families. We are expecting higher numbers this Saturday for our next pass out.

The dedication of volunteers and donors is what makes the work possible. On delivery day, several thousand kilos of food are unloaded by volunteers and sent straight to the door with those who need it over the weekend.

“We are open to everyone. It doesn’t matter what your zip code is or how far you travel. If you get here, we will help you. Hunger knows no bounds and neither do we. We will help anyone who comes to our front door,” Smith said.

Since the first 13 Action News story on God’s Instruments aired, 60 new families have signed up for help, according to Smith.

To help the organization in its fight against hunger in the region, 13 Action News and Yark Automotive Group presented Smith with a check for $1,300.

“You guys are amazing. I’m sorry, I’m a crier, I just thought you wanted a follow-up and I was ready to say how many numbers we had increased since the last interview,” Pastor Smith said. “It’s really going to help us a lot.”
