Winnipeg Police: Woman Assaulted in University of Manitoba Dormitory

Winnipeg police are searching for a suspect after a woman’s room was broken into at the University of Manitoba and she was assaulted.

Police said officers were called around 4:45 a.m. to a University of Manitoba student housing complex on Dafoe Road.

A woman told investigators that someone broke into her bedroom while she was sleeping and assaulted her.

She managed to push the individual away and scream for help. University security and the police were called.

Const. Dani McKinnon said the woman’s bedroom was not on the first floor of the building.

Police said the woman was treated for her injuries and was in stable condition.

Investigators have now released images of a suspect and are looking for a man between five feet ten inches and six feet tall, with long hair and unkempt facial hair.

The man was wearing a black beanie, a black jacket with a gray hoodie underneath, blue jeans and black shoes. He also carried a black and blue backpack.

McKinnon said the suspect was believed to be an “unhoused” individual.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers. Police said investigators were working with the university.
