Donald Trump started early with accusations of cheating today’s US presidential electionsaying police were responding to an incident in the key swing state from Pennsylvania.

But Philadelphia officials said they had no idea what the Republican candidate was referring to.

Polls indicate that Pennsylvania is one of the most important swing states for the election, with voters appearing to be almost evenly split between Kamala Harris and Trump.

Both candidates have spent significant time in the state in recent weeks as they battle to win the 19 Electoral College votes.

The former president’s accusations were published around 4:40 p.m., more than three hours before the polls closed in Philadelphia.

At a joint news conference, city commissioners Seth Bluestein and Omar Sabir said no fraud had been reported.

Mr. Sabir said: “To be clear, elections in Philadelphia are safe, simple and secure as they always have been.

‘There’s no cheating, there’s no smoke and mirrors. People say things but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s true, we learned that in 2020.’

“We’re not holding our breath.”

The message indicated that Trump planned to deploy a playbook similar to the one he used in 2020, sowing doubt about the validity of voting in order.

After that election, his team filed voter fraud lawsuits in several states, but no evidence of widespread wrongdoing was uncovered.
