Human remains discovered in Richmond in late July have been confirmed to be those of a 28-year-old Surrey woman who was the victim of a homicide.

Navdeep Kaur was reported missing by her family on February 23 to Surrey RCMP. She was last seen the day before.

After an investigation by the missing persons unit, evidence collected led investigators to believe foul play was involved.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) then took over the investigation, in collaboration with the Surrey RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS) and the British Columbia Coroners Service .

On July 23, a body was found off an industrial area in Richmond, where Williams Road meets the Fraser River.

This Wednesday, in order to further the investigation, IHIT chose to identify the human remains found in Richmond as those of Kaur.

IHIT continued to explore a number of investigative avenues to determine the circumstances surrounding Kaur’s death, IHIT said in a news release Wednesday.

“This is a tragic event and investigators continue to work on this very active investigation,” said Corporal Sukhi Dhesi of IHIT.

“We are releasing an update in the hope that someone who knows something about Ms. Kaur’s disappearance and homicide may come forward. We are asking anyone with information to call IHIT immediately.”

IHIT is asking anyone with information and who has not yet spoken to police to contact the IHIT tip line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at (email protected).
