There is a huge wave of anticipation from fans that makes the movie coming in 2025 Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 a highly anticipated horror sequel. However, there are also those who saw the previous entry in the Blumhouse and I was excited by the horror legend Matthew Lillardthe appearance of William Afton as the series’ infamous villain. These people are about to get even hornier, because I got the Chuck’s life star to share what he could say about this secret project.

Keeping the promise that he’ll “always come back,” Lillard’s recent tease about Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 start date made me eager to ask him what fans should expect. As someone who saw the first Five Nights at Freddy’s with a few friends who were already die-hard fans of the game’s story, I think the word “improved” is even more powerful than anyone could imagine. When it debuted in October 2023, director Emma Tammi’s Blumhouse-produced adaptation grossed $297.1 million against an estimated production budget of $20 million.

Even one of our own residents FNAF veterans Alexandra Ramos showed a lot of love in a list of how Five Nights at Freddy’s delight game fans. So hearing the word “improved” already sets the stage for some crazy fun. However, I’m happy to say that the one-word approach worked better than expected.

As Matthew Lillard delved a little deeper into his feelings about the rest of our conversation, he offered an alternative to his previous singular word choice. Mixing this change with other information about how series creator Scott Cawthon plays on these feelings, here’s what he had to add:

I think Scott really cares what the fans think. And I think we answered so many questions about the story in the first movie, that I think it takes that and just expands on it. …Maybe that’s my word, maybe my word is “expanded.” I think fans are going to lose their minds with this movie. I think they’re going to be so excited.

As someone who hadn’t played these games, but was familiar with them before seeing the movie, I too enjoyed Five Nights at Freddy’s. Much like Blumhouse’s R-rated adaptation of The black phone is a fantastic gateway horror filmthis picture really walks the line between the chilling and disturbing crimes committed by Matthew Lillard’s character. Although for the sake of younger audiences familiar with the game, there are enough fun and creative blockbuster montages that allow it to remain a PG-13 rated project.

I’m certainly excited for an “improved” and “expanded” sequel, while also hoping we’ll see even more of the crazy joy Lillard brings to his role. We’ll see where the next chapter of terror takes us when we return to Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2which is currently expected to be in production for its December 5, 2025 release date.
