It’s obvious that Matt Reeves prefers to work with Batman villains grounded in reality. However, it does not close the door to the possibility of reintroducing Mr. Freeze to the new audience. Many would remember Arnold Schwarzenegger brilliantly embodied the character of Batman and Robin (1997), and it would be fantastic to know the filmmaker’s take on the villain.

During an interview with Colliderthe director shared his thoughts on potentially adapting Mr. Freeze into his version of Batman:

I just feel drawn to the idea of finding the grounded version of everything. So, for me, it would be an interesting challenge to try to understand how that could happen, even the idea of something like Mr. Freeze.

He added that there could be a grounded version of this story that he could play with and fit his dark, brooding film aesthetic. Right now, however, it appears the character isn’t a top choice for a Batman villain.

The Penguin is available to watch on HBO.
