Council hopes new film will encourage more foster families

A film aimed at encouraging more people to become foster carers will be screened in Surrey on Thursday.

Entitled Everything, the film is being screened privately at the Nova Cinema in Woking.

The council currently has more than twice as many children in need of foster care as foster carers.

Current foster carers and children with experience of the care system will also be available to answer questions from potential volunteers.

Clare Curran, cabinet member for children, families and lifelong learning, said: “We have over 1,000 children in our care and we currently have just under 400 families of welcome.

“The ‘Everything’ project has given our foster care service an amazing film that shows the long-term impact that foster care can have, with relationships between carers and children lasting into adulthood .

“Every council is keen to recruit more foster carers, and by working together to produce this emotionally powerful film, we can show people how rewarding and transformative being a foster carer can be.

“Our ambition is for at least 30 new foster carers across Surrey to join us by the end of March 2025.”

Tickets for the event are available to be booked.
