Two former Sharks placed on waivers in the NHL

Two former San Jose Sharks were placed on waivers by their respective teams today. The Toronto Maple Leafs waived Matt Benning and the Colorado Avalanche waived Kaapo Kahkonen.

Benning was traded to Toronto on October 30, along with two draft picks. The Sharks acquired former first-round defenseman Timothy Liljegren.

The Maple Leafs reportedly wanted to do the right thing for Benning and transfer him to another team. They felt he was still a quality player in the NHL, but there was no room for him.

Kahkonen was waived by the Winnipeg Jets early in the season and was claimed by the Avalanche. The former Sharks goalie played an NHL game on October 30 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He allowed four goals on 20 shots.
