“Fortified” house in Surrey linked to Mexican cartels: RCMP

Federal RCMP say they found guns, drugs, cash and even “law enforcement clothing” inside a “heavily fortified” home in Surrey.

Federal RCMP in British Columbia say they are investigating links between the Mexican cartel and a “fortified” house in Surrey where drugs, weapons and cash were recently seized.

On Wednesday, the Pacific Region RCMP announced it had arrested three men in recent “enforcement actions against a transnational organized crime group linked to Mexican drug cartels, suspected of being involved in the importation of cocaine into the Canada.”

On September 23, the RCMP Federal Police Drugs and Organized Crime Unit executed a search warrant at a home and seized 23 firearms, several thousand rounds of ammunition, “several” kilograms of illicit drugs, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, ketamine, and a variety of other opioids.

Police also seized $15,000 in cash and “law enforcement issued clothing.”

Police said the men had not been charged, but the investigation was ongoing and “numerous drug and weapons-related charges were pending.”

Police did not release the address of the home but said that during the execution of the warrant, “investigators discovered the residence was surrounded by fencing, steel gates and razor wire” while “the entrance doors were completely covered by metal shutters, the interior and exterior of the residence being equipped with video and audio surveillance systems.

“This enforcement action was part of the RCMP Federal Policing program’s joint responsibility to protect the Canadian border from transnational organized crime and, in this case, to prevent the importation of cocaine in Canada by organized crime groups associated with Mexican drug cartels,” said Chief Supt. Stephen Lee, Deputy Regional Commander – RCMP Federal Policing Program – Pacific Region.

On October 31, the federal RCMP announced he had dismantled an alleged drug superlaboratory in Falkland with links to at least two Surrey properties. Police said the superlab had ties to Mexican cartels, but police did not link the two events.
