Helicopter to fly over Cass County as part of groundwater study

PLATTSMOUTH, Neb. (WOWT) – Residents in the Plattsmouth area could see and hear a plane passing overhead at low altitude in the coming days, but authorities say not to be alarmed.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday that a company called Aqua Geo Frames will pilot a helicopter towing a large hoop approximately 100-200 feet off the ground. Weather permitting, flights will begin on Friday and last approximately a week.

The goal is to map the area’s groundwater, with the hula-hoop-like contraption serving as a sensor that measures what the sheriff’s office considers “tiny electromagnetic signals,” used to gather data beneath the surface of the Earth.

CCSO says residents in Plattsmouth and surrounding areas should not be concerned about the helicopter if they encounter it, and that the low-altitude airborne project has a pre-planned flight route.
